APPSO Survey - Special Reports

2008 Apprenticeship Survey: Summary Report (2.5 Mb)

The annual apprenticeship survey provides information to post-secondary institutions, the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development (ALMD), and the Industry Training Authority (ITA) to help them improve the apprenticeship training that is offered. The 2008 Apprenticeship Student Outcomes Survey is the fourth annual survey of former apprentices and the largest to date. The survey asked 1,680 former students about their labour force participation, their satisfaction with their training, and the usefulness of the knowledge and skills they gained.

2007 Apprenticeship Survey: Summary Report (2Mb)

The 2007 Apprenticeship Survey: Summary Report presents the findings from the third annual Graduate Follow-up Survey of Apprenticeship Students from BC Public and Private Post-Secondary Institutions. Former students from 14 public and 11 private institutions participated in the 2007 survey, answering questions on their post-training employment, their satisfaction with their training, and the usefulness of the knowledge and skills they gained. The information they provided will be used to improve the quality of training, to meet accountability requirements, to help with policy development, and to inform prospective students.

2006 Apprenticeship Survey Summary Report (2Mb)

The 2006 Graduate Follow-up Survey of Apprenticeship Students is the second annual survey of former apprenticeship students. This year’s survey included all former apprenticeship students who completed their training at a BC post-secondary institution between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005. Twenty-five institutions participated in this project: 14 public and 11 private. Questions in the survey included the following:

  • How do former students rate their in-school and work-place training experiences?
  • What are students doing after they complete their apprenticeship programs?
  • How useful were the knowledge and skills they gained from their training?
  • What do former students think will improve apprenticeship training?

2005 Apprenticeship Survey: Summary Report (1644Kb)

The 2005 Graduate Follow-up Survey of Apprenticeship Students was a pilot project undertaken by the Ministry of Advanced Education, the Industry Training Authority, and post-secondary institutions (13 public and 9 private). The pilot survey targeted those who completed their apprenticeship technical training programs in a BC post-secondary institution in 2003 or 2004. Of the 2,342 former apprenticeship students identified as eligible for the survey, 1,156 completed the telephone interview in February or March of 2005.

The former apprenticeship students who were surveyed were asked about any previous training they had (especially ELTT), their current employment, and how helpful their apprenticeship program had been. They rated the quality and other aspects of their technical training and of their workplace experience. They also made suggestions for improving both the in-school and workplace training. The report presents a summary of the findings from the survey.
