Adult
Special Education 2006 Cohort Study - omnibus report of Phase I,
II, and III (2089Kb)
The Ministry of Advanced Education (AVED) and the
post-secondary institutions involved undertook the Adult Special
Education (ASE) 2006 Cohort Study to broaden understanding of the
programs offered under the ASE umbrella and to learn more about
the ASE students who take these programs. The first phase of this
study collected information on the programs being offered The
Program Inventory contains detailed information on 50 Adult
Special Education programs, submitted by the 15 public post-secondary
institutions in BC that offer ASE programming. Phase II of the project
is the ASE Registrant Study, which collected information on the
students who were registered in ASE programs between September 1
and November 30, 2006. The ASE Registrant Study Report summarizes
the information provided on students’ characteristics, assessments
done, services provided, students’ educational goals, and employment
or volunteer work. Phase III consisted of a brief exit survey that
collected information from the students interviewed for Phase II,
after they left their programs or courses. The results are reported
in the ASE Exit Survey Report.
2005
Adult Basic Education Survey: Report of Findings (1612Kb)
"Adult Basic Education" is a broad term that includes
a range of courses in fundamental academic skills, academic upgrading,
and life skills or career preparation. Many students who take these
courses are also enrolled in other college-level (non-ABE) programs.
The public post-secondary institutions that deliver these courses
and the Ministry of Advanced Education sponsored the 2005 BC College
and Institute Adult Basic Education Outcomes Survey to gather information
about the students who take ABE courses. The survey Report of Findings
addresses the questions: Who takes ABE and career preparation courses?
What are their reasons for enrolling? How do they evaluate their
courses? What are their outcomes?
